The band was formed by high school friends Jonas Nielsen, Stian Sævig and brothes Axel and Pål Vindenes in 2004. They originally intended to only play a one-off show, but after four hundred people attended and finding the public response so positive they decided to keep the band together and keep the strange name!

Their musical style is almost impossible to categorise, containing a mix of elements from funk, disco, broadway, reggae, rock and pop. Kakkmaddafakka are well known for their spectacular stage shows, where the main band members are joined by a horn section and a team of backing singers/dancers, sometimes playing with up to thirteen people on stage.

Since 2004 the band have played over one hundred shows in Norway, including festival performances at Øya, By:larm, Storaas Festival, Trænafestivalen, Bergen Fest, Lost Weekend and Spot Festival. More recently Kakkmaddafakka have made a name for themselves overseas, with festival shows at CMJ Music Marathon (US), Euro-Sonic (NL), Melt! (GER), NXNE (CAN), Montruex Jazz Festival (CH) and at this years Iceland Airwaves (IS).

Kakkmaddafakka self-recorded and self-released the album 'Down To Earth' in 2007, which reached number twenty on the VG Topp30 chart, and featured the single 'Cool' which was heavily played on MTV, and led to an MTV European Music Award nomination in 2008, in the Best Norwegian Act category. 'Cool' was also featured on a television commercial for Vodafone in Albania.

Since 2008 Kakkmaddafakka have been signed to the Bergen label Sounds Gold, who's aim is promoting Bergen music to an international audience. With a new album planned for release next year, the band hope to build on their previous achievements, securing their place as one of Norway's most popular bands and becoming a major international act.
